I remember helping a salon owner in Chicago who bought a set of salon shampoo bowls from a liquidation sale. They looked great in the photos. But when they arrived, the basins were so shallow that water splashed everywhere. She had to buy foam neck rests to keep clients dry. She called me, frustrated, and

A salon owner in Miami texted me a photo of her washing station setup. She’d bought a cheap wall mounted shampoo bowl and a mismatched chair. The bowl was too shallow, so water ran down clients’ necks. The chair had no lumbar support. Her stylists were complaining about back pain from leaning over. She asked,

I got a call from a barber in Denver who was renting a chair in a shared shop. He wanted to add shampooing to his service menu, but the landlord said no plumbing modifications. He thought he was stuck. I told him about portable hair wash sinks, and two weeks later he was doing scalp

A therapist in Portland called me last month. She was using a massage portable massage table she’d borrowed from her sister. The table was 15 years old, the vinyl was cracked, and the legs would randomly collapse. She was terrified every time she did a deep tissue session. She finally ordered a new one from

My client in Miami, a licensed massage therapist, bought a massage massage table from an auction site for $300. She was proud of the deal. Two weeks later, the leg hinge snapped while a 250-lb client was getting on. The client fell, hit her elbow, and threatened to sue. The table was a cheap import

I was in a salon in Scottsdale last week. The manicurist had been there for 3 years. She showed me her manicure station—a beautiful white marble top with gold legs. ‘Looks great, right?’ she said. Then she lifted the top. Underneath, the wood was black with mold from spilled water that had pooled under the

My buddy runs a nail salon in Denver. Last year, she bought 6 gorgeous nail tables from a local furniture store. They looked like marble, had gold legs, and cost her $1,400 each. Three months later, the laminate started peeling where clients rest their elbows. She called the store, and they said ‘furniture is not

Last month, a salon owner from Houston texted me a photo of her brand-new ‘bargain’ pedicure chairs. They looked great in the catalog. Six days after install, the jets started spitting black gunk into the footbaths. She called the supplier, who told her the warranty didn’t cover plumbing parts. That’s the reality of buying cheap

My third chair gave out last Tuesday. Not the pump—the whole backrest just snapped when I leaned in to rinse a client with thick, waist-length hair. That was the last straw. I’d bought it cheap from a local distributor who promised it was “salon-grade.” It lasted 14 months. The one before that, the basin cracked

I get a call every week that goes like this: “I bought a shampoo sink online and the water backs up.” Nine times out of ten, it’s because the sink was too shallow or the drain was too small. A shampoo sink isn’t just a bowl — it’s a plumbing system. Here’s how to buy
