Twelve years in, my lower back doesn’t hurt because of the cuts. It hurts because of the chair — specifically, the wrong chair under me for eight hours a day. Every stylist I know has a version of this story: you spend three weeks picking the perfect client chair for the mirror, and then sit

Picture the end of your longest day: five massages back to back, and your shoulders feel like you’ve been carrying furniture. Now imagine a client who needs extra help getting on and off the table — an older regular, a client recovering from surgery, a pregnant client in her third trimester. That’s the exact moment

You know the moment. Third client of the day, you reach back to tilt the bowl and the faucet arm clunks loose — fifth time this month. Nobody plans to replace a salon sink until it’s leaking onto the floor mid-shampoo. Then you panic-buy whatever ships fastest and usually end up paying for it twice.
